Fruit raita with apple, pear and green grapes in a terracotta bowl

On fasting days, curd is your best friend. Add fruit to it and you have something that feels like a proper dish, not a compromise.

Ingredients

  • A bowl of thick curd
  • 1 apple
  • 1 pear
  • A handful of Muscat grapes
  • Sendha namak (rock salt)
  • Roasted jeera powder

Method

  1. Whisk the curd until smooth.
  2. Fold in the diced apple and pear and the halved grapes.
  3. Season with sendha namak and roasted jeera.
  4. Chill for 15 minutes and serve cold.

Why Muscat grapes

Muscat grapes are perfumed and honeyed, so they bring a floral sweetness that makes the raita taste far more special than plain fruit and curd.

Make it yours

  • Skip the salt and add a little honey for a sweet version.
  • Add a few blueberries for colour.
  • Leave out the jeera if your family does not use it during the fast.

Tip

Cut the fruit just before folding it in. Apple and pear cut too early will brown and water down the curd.
